Grandma, is that you back there in the kitchen?
From AOL Cityguide [  Click here for full article  ]

Looking for the best chicken soup ever made -- well, except for perhaps your grandmother's best? You'll find it here. Locals line up during cold and flu season ordering batches to go for loved ones who are under the weather. And really, they crowd Steve's just any old time the craving hits. Choose from chicken noodle or chicken with matzoh balls, but either way if your order is to go, the soup comes in very quaint glass jars. Classic Jewish deli standards abound, including a stacked-high corned beef sandwich, lots of lox, stuffed cabbage and delicious potato latkes. Steve's also offers a variety of low-fat selections, including fat-free tuna and chicken salad, egg white omelets and vegetarian chopped liver -- perhaps the only thing on the menu grandma might not kvell about. Despite its strip mall setting, Steve's easily manages to remain one of the closest forays into New York deli-style eating in the area. -- Heidi Rehak Lovy

Steve’s Deli sandwiches stack up well in contest

It isn’t your average deli, and that’s probably why Eagle readers voted it Best Restaurant for Sandwiches in C & G Newspapers’ 2005 Restaurant Contest. Just one visit to Steve’s Deli and it’s clear that a great deal of hard work and heart go into every sandwich, bowl of soup and salad.

The restaurant, which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in October, is located at 6646 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township.

Husband and wife team Steve and Joanee Hurwitz own the restaurant, which has been expanded three times since its inception.

“We used to own the Plaza Deli in Southfield, but that wasn’t anything like this,” said Joanee. Steve’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and according to Joanee, does a ... [  Read More  ]

Deli pleasures
From the Metrotimes[  Click here for full article  ]

When I walked up to Steve’s Deli, a man was standing in the doorway with two teenage girls. I asked: “Are you standing in line?”

“Yes,” he said.

“But it’s Thursday.”

“No one out here cooks anymore,” he said.

He objected (jokingly) when we were seated first, but tables for three aren’t easy to come by at Steve’s. Laid out like a railroad car, long and narrow, with tables on either side of a central aisle, a party of three has to wait for two adjacent tables to be vacated.

Steve’s Deli is decorated with hanging salamis and there’s a pleasant cacophony of china clattering against china coming from the other side of the wall (the dishwasher... . [  Read More  ]

Chicago Restaurants

Homesick Detroit area natives will be happy to know this kosher-style deli is opening a River North outpost later this year (the original location has been serving up chopped chicken liver, pastrami, beef brisket and more in suburban Bloomfield Hills, MI since 1994) Look for a full-serve restaurant, plus a carryout and a grab-n-go area stocked with bestsellers like egg salad and a lineup of diet-friendly fare (Steve's is near the East Bank Club). Deli classics like matzo-ball soup, stuffed cabbage, gelfite fish, fried kreplach and blintzes are on offer, plus made-to-order salads, overstuffed deli sandwiches and entrees like roast turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce. ...
